Hay is to get its first drive-through coffee facility.

An application for the redevelopment of the Ampol Service Station in South Hay was enthusiastically adopted by Council last month, with a unanimous vote.

The development application is for the demolition of the existing service station building and refuelling canopy as well as associated refuelling areas on Moama Street.

The new service station precinct will have separate light and heavy vehicle refuelling canopies and parking, new shop and a drive-through coffee facility to the northern side of the proposed sales building.

This will maximise available queuing clear of circulation paths to the light vehicle fuel bowsers.

The new development will be built behind the existing shop which will remain open during construction.

The final phase of the development is the demolition of all existing building, some trees and the removal of the Archer Street driveway.

Council said the proposed service station would be set back further than the existing structure, with an increased footprint and a drive-through facility.

As a safety measure, the site will be established and maintained with one-way circulation throughout the footprint and will be restricted to ingress via the western driveway from the Sturt Highway (Moama Street) and egress via the eastern driveway.

The one-way circulation will be appropriately sign posted and line marked, with ‘No entry’ signs erected and maintained at the eastern driveway.

“The proposed development will also include formalise truck and caravan parking areas,” General Manager, David Webb said.

“Council believes this is a great investment in Hay.”

Works by the applicant, Purtill Bros Nominees Pty Ltd of Deniliquin are expected to start next year.
