Fishing Classic a high river sucess

The 2022 Hay Fishing Classic was declared a success by organisers, with more than 600 entries received. The annual event was hampered by flood conditions and COVID restrictions but still hosted more than 340 anglers in Hay on the weekend. Fish numbers were low compared to last year due to the high river and fast flowing current, but many rose to the challenge, fishing and camping on the higher river banks surrounding town. In total 119 native fish were caught and released, with visitor Dylan Saw bagging the prize for longest Murray Cod, with his 76cm fish. Aiden Mullins proved local knowledge worked a treat, taking the prize for most native fish caught by a male, while Simone Mabon took the female prize.
