Hay’s second annual Hayland Gathering hailed a success
By Krista Schade
The second annual Hayland Gathering was held in Hay on the weekend and was another highly successful event.
The Gathering is the brainchild of local dance teacher Kylie Kerr (centre) pictured below with supporters Will Miller and Jenny Dwyer.
Local dancers (below, from left) Elsbeth Kerr, Paigen Gee, MJ Haywood and Ariana Meads took to the stage in the Riverina Titles. 51 dancers travelled from Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory to take part in the competition.
A ceilidh (pronounced KAY-lee) or traditional celebration, was held on Saturday evening at Hay Services Club. A highlight of the evening was the piping in of the haggis.
Douglas McFarland ( brother of Mrs Kerr) led the procession playing bagpipes, followed by Logan Doig, who performed the Toast to the Haggis. Whiskey bearers Brett Boulton and David Kerr rounded out the official party.
