Lucy Shea and Bailey Caughey were inducted last week as the 2024 Hay War Memorial High School captains.

Vice captains are Jensen Hargreaves and Sean Johnston.

Year 6 students were invited to the ceremony on Friday to watch the induction of the school’s new leaders.

Jayne Gill addressed the school as an ex-student and delivered a great speech about what makes a good leader, and also spoke about her experiences at HWMHS.

Ms Gill said the final words of one of her educators were cemented in her brain as she signed out of school in Year 11.

Those words, telling her to “do great things” are what has shaped her into a successful Director of Educational Leadership.

Ms Gill, alongside the outgoing captains, Emma Johnston and Michael Tumolero shook the hands of Lucy and Bailey and presented them with the title of 2024 Captains.

This was followed by the presentation of Vice Captains, Jensen and Sean before Year 11 Advisor Mr Leon Ang announced the “passing of the Torch” tradition, which dates back to the War. The torch represents service leadership and hope for the future.

This tradition was carried out by outgoing Captains Emma Johnston and Micheal Tumolero when they handed the torch to Lucy and Bailey.
