Carol Bunyan’s interest in Hay’s history and museums led to her ongoing Dunera research which has earnt her an OAM.

Carol was named in the Australia Day Honours list as a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to community history.

She was born in Hay, a sixth-generation resident of the district, and studied history at the Australian National University in Canberra, where she lives.

Her interest in researching the Dunera story took Carol to the Dunera anniversary function in 2011 where she met Ken Inglis with whom she co-authored Dunera Lives: Volume 1, A Visual History, 2018 and Dunera Lives: Volume 2, Profiles, 2020.

Carol frequently returns to Hay to visit her mother, Laura Bunyan and family members and attended the Australia Day celebrations at Hay Gaol on Thursday.

She is the current honorary archivist and historian for the Dunera Association and a former committee member.
