Can Assist Volunteer, Reg Fell, was honoured at NSW Volunteer Awards in Wagga last week.

Reg received the nomination from the Hay Can Assist branch for single handedly raising an astronomical $88,990 in can collections.

Reg’s efforts have helped many locals in receiving the treatment and care they need without the worry of financial hardship.

Known around Hay as the Can Man, he tirelessly works to collect cans and bottles from households and organisations around the town, loads them up on his ute to take them to be converted into cash donations.

His contributions will no doubt only continue to soar.

Named Hay Citizen of the Year in 2020, Reg did previously donate funds raised to Hay Golf club where he worked, to help upgrade the facilities. Since 2016 he has donated the money raised to Hay CanAssist.

Not only has he helped cancer sufferers but has been a benefit to the community by recycling. Reg goes about his community work with minimal fuss.

“We are very proud of reg he does a big job single handedly, and we congratulate him on his well-deserved award,” President of Hay CanAssist Jane Griffith said.
