Southern Cross hosts open day to celebrate 90 years of historic flight

By Krista Schade

In November 1933, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith landed in Balranald in his famous Southern Cross plane for a short visit.

A replica of the Southern Cross plane was acquired by the local community group Balranald Southern Cross Inc. which was the centre of celebrations held on Sunday.

The day included live music by Graham Baird, formerly of Hay, market stalls, vintage car display and tours on the Southern Cross Centre and landing site.
