A piece of largely unknown treasure was recently unveiled in Lachlan Street.

Gwen Wall and Roger McGrath have painstakingly uncovered a vintage Goldenia tea sign on the Foodworks wall of their property in Lachlan Street.

A mayoral chain worn by the late OJ Smith has been returned to Hay.

“It needed to come back home,” former Hay resident Noelene Martin said.

“It had been sitting in a cupboard since we moved to Uranquinty and no one ever saw it.”

Ron Wall traded as Hay Furniture Mart from the beginning of his enterprise in 1932 to 1957, when the company was restructured, including a name change to Hay Furniture Co.

Descendants of one of Hay’s earliest sons, George Thomas Esplin, gathered by his grave in Melbourne Cemetery on April 8 to commemorate the 145th anniversary of his death in 1878 at just 40 years of age.
