Top spots for coffee in Hay NSW

By Kimberly Grabham

Whenever people are travelling through a town, there is one key question on their mind. Where can we get a good cup of coffee?

Hay is truly spoiled for choice. You can get good coffee at a number of places, and to suit your needs, whatever they may be.

Kinfolk & Co

If you want it as part of the full dining experience, trot on down to Kinfolk. Located right in the heart of the town, on the North side of Lachlan Street, it is run by experienced and adept members of the hospitality industry.

Serving an all-day breakfast, a variety of fresh options for lunch, homemade sweet treats, and art on the wall to delight the senses from local artist Rebecca Woods, this place has it covered.

Even better in winter with a warm, crackling fire to sit by. The coffee is well made, and delightful.

Foodie Friends

If you want something light, head down to Foodie Friends. Phenomenal chocolate chip biscuits, quiche, a variety of homemade soups, toasties with the option to include the best relish on the planet, and so much more. To add to the delight, if you are looking to buy a gift for that special someone, or even just wanting to window shop while you wait for your spectacular coffee, they share space with local shop Two Billy Buttons.

Featuring a wide variety of ladies, men’s and children’s fashion and wares, Two Billy Buttons is a well curated store run by Sarah Laracy, a very friendly and helpful local.

Ampol South Hay

If you are in a rush, or just spritzing through town, head for the Ampol Service Station in South Hay.

Now, some readers may have done a double take when reading that one, but it is true. Gone are the days when you needed to avoid service station food and beverages. Ampol is clean, friendly, and the coffee is consistently, refreshingly delicious.

The food there is also fresh, and on par with any other food outlet you have ever been to.

Hay is a place where the competition is stiff, especially in the hospitality department. And, the clear winner is the consumer. Wherever you go, you will be in for a treat; fresh, delectable food served with that good old fashioned country hospitality.
