Basketball is back!

By Father Paul

Over the last few days, people I bumped into in town kept asking me, “How many do I think we’ll get?” My response: “There’s a bit of interest but we’ll see - God knows!”

When I arrived at 6:30pm (30 minutes before start time) several people were already waiting. They gradually started turning up and by the time we got going there were about 40 people in attendance – most wanting to play and the rest to cheer/enjoy. Jimmy Ovens was our smiling/expert umpire - all decked out in the stripes. We settled on two very enthusiastic teams: the Bobcats and the Dolphins. We had a wonderful friendly energetic game with many laughs and highlights – a real spirit of excitement. Everyone was so thrilled that Spirit of Anzac Centre, such a wonderful venue, was finally getting a fantastic after-hours workout and that BASKETBALL WAS FINALLY BACK!

The Bobcats secured a great win and afterwards everyone was asked who was keen for the same time/day next week (7pm Friday) and there was a spontaneous and resounding YES!!!

Regardless of physical fitness, age or any other reason, head down to the Spirit of Anzac building on any Friday, and support the continuation of basketball, either have a play or just cheer us on.

God bless. Fr Paul.
