Cutters bounce back!

The Hay Cutters came up against the Leeton Phantoms on Saturday at Leeton and came away to win 35 to 15.

After a 27 to 19 loss to Wagga Ag College at Wagga the previous week, the Cutters dug deep up against the Leeton Phantoms who had a large size advantage. The Cutters kicked off short, which gave the Phantoms a scrum on half way.

Hay forwards managed to push the heavier Phantoms pack backwards in the early contests.

After some good defending, they won the ball and Harry Agar crashed through the line of defense and dragged two players to the try line to claim the first try of the match, Harry kicking the conversion to lead seven - zero. Hay continued to tackle well, as the big Phantoms forwards started to gain some momentum. Tom Lilburne, James Graham and Ben Ryan were right in the thick of it. Will Nadin scored the next try, followed by another try by fullback, Nick Makeham from which Harry Agar set up off a great ball. Nick ran half the length of the field on halftime and Harry Agar converted both these tries. Leeton then showed they could get over the line to score their first try. Hay hit back after halftime, with a great team effort and some nice back-up play to put Will Nadin over for his second try of the game. Leeton managed to build more pressure in the second half on the Cutters defense, by controlling their possession and getting some fresh legs on the field, resulting in two tries which were unsuccessfully converted. Hay sealed the win after a good team effort with a final try to Will Marshall. Harry Agar kicked all the goals and has been fantastic with his goal kicking this year. Ollie Cameron, Will Booth and George Sinclair stepped up in the forwards and helped maintain pressure on the opposition. The final score was Hay Cutters 35 to Leeton Phantoms 15.

Coach Matt Ireson encouraged the players at half time to maintain possession at the break down, and continue tackling the bigger players around the legs. Points were awarded to 3 points Jack Halliwell, 2 points Will Booth, and 1 point Ollie Cameron.
