Last Saturday, the Proten Community Cup was taken to the home of the Bluebirds, Hillston. Again, the Ivanhoe Roosters and Hens side showed they are only getting stronger. Both teams were able to fend off the Goolgowi Rabbitohs in show down fashion.

The Hens had a triumphant game, showing off how strong they can be as a team when they’re able to field a full side. Much to their coach Dwayne Evans distress, the hens made light of how fun the game can be when they were able to laugh with their opponents during the game. Samantha Simpson had an especially good game posting five tries for the day.

Goolgowi did make the Hens work for their tries no matter what the scoreboard suggested. With a whirlwind score of 40-4 it’s slowly looking like it will be another Barellan and Hens grand final showdown, with Ivanhoe holding second place on the ladder.

The men’s game was just as exciting, but from a whole different perspective. Where the women’s game was able to give fans constant excitement, crowed goers were kept on the edge of their seat until the 28th minute in the first half for the games first try, claimed by Goolgowi.

Within the first two minutes Ivanhoe was unfortunate enough to lose a major forward player in Brett Fyfe to a suspected head injury.

This adds to Ivanhoe’s loss of a few of their forwards already this year from injuries. These forwards are what they will require for next weekend’s game to keep their finals position, when they go up against the Rams at their home ground in Barellan.

As last week’s match continued into the second half, the action started to heat up. Tensions were high and the scoreboard was a tit for tat, until the final whistle was blown giving Ivanhoe a much-needed win. Ivanhoe took away the win by a tight score of 14-12.This Saturday, the Roosters will take on the Barellan Rams at their home ground in Barellan. This will be the last game in the six rounds of the regular competition before heading into the first round of finals. Games commence at 10am.
