Jack Cattanach and Maddie Mannes take out Lions B&F

By Krista Schade

Hay Lions Football and Netball Club held its annual awards night on Friday, where Jack Cattanach and Maddie Mannes were named the senior best and fairest winners.

Cattanach had a stellar season, despite the senior Lions team losing out on back-to-back premierships by a single point in the grand final played in Hay.

The announcement as Hay’s best player for the 2024 year came as no surprise on the back of Cattanach winning the Golden Rivers League EG Hunt medal for the best senior player in the competition.

His ability to snap a perfectly weighted goal under pressure saw him add 28 goals to his season tally.

Mannes was part of the history-making A grade netball side which won the Lions’ first ever grand final, when they blitzed Murrabit by 14 goals.

Mannes captained the team during the season, and led the way forward for her side, with her style of play described as electric.
