Lion netball results against Nullawil

A Grade - Nullawil 70 defeated Hay 13 - Nullawil demonstrated why they have been one of the top sides for many years with their strategic game play and execution of that approach with precision. The Hay girls had a full suite of their A Grade players and showed some impressive defensive and attacking play while trialling a few new combinations. Each quarter they improved. Ruby Stewart (South Hay Hotel Award) returned showing her ability to pick off loose balls in defence aptly supported by Olivia Joyce (Coaches Award) back from injury. Emma Johnston (Ian Bunyan Players Player) keeps asking questions and improving each week. This trio will be a force as they continue to play together. All girls worked hard and encouraged each other. Lots of learnings from the impressive Nullawil game style and areas for Hay to work on at training.

B Grade - Nullawil 63 defeated Hay 8 - A tough game for the Hay girls, against Nullawil’s fast, experienced side. Ellie Jamieson (Hay Bowling and Golf Club Award) worked very hard in defence picking off intercepts and putting pressure on the shooters. Ellie’s experience allows her to help guide the young Hay girls throughout the court. Chloe Deacon (Tantrum Hair and Beauty Award) played her first game for Lions, picking off intercepts and offering assistance down the court.

Chloe is able to take on advice and will continue to improve. There’s plenty we will take from this game and work on at training this week.

B Reserve - Nullawil 50 defeated Hay 20 - A long trip to Nullawil saw the B Reserve Team put up a great fight in the toughest game of the competition so far. Defence was strong with Jess Weymouth (Players Player and IGA Award) and Trish Jamieson (Tantrum Hair & Beauty Award) always puts in 110%. We have lots to work on in training to be ready for when we take on Nullawil again! But overall great game.

Under 17’s - Nullawil 29 defeated Hay 19 - Playing the unbeaten Nullawil team the Lions got off to a slow start being down 6 to 2 at the end of the first quarter. The girls however continued to fight through over the next half of the match with Emily Caughey (Highway Inn Motel Award) in the unfamiliar role of WA playing well over all four quarters. Nullawil slowly built up their lead through to the last quarter despite the efforts of Lucy Shea (Peter Mullins Building Award) who returned from an ankle injury in the first quarter to play strongly throughout the game. The last quarter saw the Hay girls outscore Nullawil with Emily Hill (The Spot Award) getting numerous intercepts as they showed great fight to the end.

Under 14’s - Nullawil 58 defeated Hay 11 - The U14 girls had to fight hard for every goal as the undefeated Nullawil team cemented their early control over the game, leading 16 to 3 at the first break. Despite Nullawil extending their lead throughout the match, Matilda Nisbet (Hay Newsagency Award) and Emily Caughey’s (Hay Callisthenics Award) defence was consistent and determined against the opposition’s skilled attack combination. Emily Taylor (Active Farmers Award) showed great improvement, putting training skills into practice with strong and purposeful passing through the centre court and into the goal circle.

F Troop - Hay 32 defeated Nullawil 21 - Hay took two teams worth of Under 12 netballers to our furthest destination. There were six 10-minute quarters to allow everyone decent play time, and the girls made the trip worthwhile with our only netball win of the day. Evelyn Creighton (Active Farmers Award), Sophie Griffiths (Lions Canteen Voucher), Rachel Taylor (Two Billy Buttons Award), Isabel Pearson (Lions Canteen Voucher sponsored by Lani Houston)
