Little Athletics A-peal instrumental in Hay’s first year back

Hay Little Athletics Centre Secretary Shayne Johnston (pictured right) looks forward to a booming season following a three-year break.

Thanks to a successful grant submission to Coles, new equipment will be purchased to make this happen.

“A line marker is a large cost which at the moment our new committee does not have the funds for it, but without a line marker, we cannot mark the fields,” Mr Johnston said.

“The grant will allow us to buy a new line marker, paint and a sports timer which are essential to running our sport.

“Although we are considering running a few field events until the line marker arrives within the next month, we really could not have progressed without it, and are truly grateful for the grant.

“We are having another meeting in the coming weeks, and then go from there in regards to commencing Little A’s sessions, and signing up children.”

Inaugural Little Athletics Banana A-peal was held again earlier this year, with ten cents of every kilogram of cavendish bananas being sold at Coles going to the cause.

In addition to these sporting equipment grants; Coles will continue to support Little Athletics centres across New South Wales with banana donations.

Mr Johnston said the Little Athletics organisation had also been quite instrumental and supportive in the new committee’s preparation to start their first year.

Congratulations to all those involved in the revival of Little Athletics in Hay; without the volunteers who make it all happen, such as the committee, out kids would not have wonderful things like this to do!
