Sand Green Championships returning to Hay

By Krista Schade

The 44th annual Men’s NSW Sand Greens Championship will be held in Hay over the weekend of October 13 to 15.

Hay has a proud history of hosting this event – the first ever championship was held at Hay Golf Club in 1979, and Hay repeated the feat in 1980.

The last time Hay was the venue for this premier display of golfing talent was 2018, so the Hay committee is keen for it to return to the local greens.

More than 100 local and visiting golfers are expected to vie for the men’s, junior and team events, included Stuart Fraser, CEO of Golf NSW, who has already entered.

The weekend will commence with a coaching clinic on Friday, with PGA professional instructors on hand to help improve your swing or introduce you to the sport.

Competition golf will start with 18 holes on Saturday October 14 and continue into the Sunday, followed by presentations.

The championship is open to male amateur golfers with a Golf Australia handicap of 27.4 or under and is played over 36-hole stroke play.

Further information is available from Golf NSW’s Tahnia Ravnjak 02 9505 9105 or Hay Golf’s Rob Young.
