Lions netball teams enjoy clean sweep against Moulamein Swans

A Grade - by Lani Houston.

Hay 42 defeated Moulamein 40.

Hay team posted their first win for the season with a show of grit and determination. With the girls trailing by 15 goals at one point in time, they pulled together as a team backing each other and ground their way through to win by two goals.

All players showcased ability to overcome challenges and work together to turn the game around. Maddie Mannes (IGA Players Player) kept man on man defence, making the attack work hard for every ball. Her speed and agility created turnovers.

Hannah Stewart (South Hay Hotel Umpires Best On Court) had a great game in WA and then moved into GA. There, she shone using her strength and height to support Kellie Walker in the goal circle. Jade Auldist (Boys on Lachlan Coaches Award) worked tirelessly moving the ball into attack and defending.

A reset saw some of her in WA, feeding some well-placed passes into the circle. A brilliant effort by the team and we look forward to next week’s match up against Macorna!

B Grade - by Talitha Brown.

Hay 38 defeated Moulamein 35.

B Grade took on Moulamein in their first away game of the season. Hay started a little slow, letting Moulamein get a good lead going into the second quarter.

The team didn’t back down, fighting back to within a goal of Moulamein. Hay kept level heads, applying defence pressure down the court and making turnovers.

Attackers capitalised on each chance, managing to snag the lead within the last few minutes of play with a final score of Hay 38 - Moulamein 35. Well done B Grade on the first win of the season.

Award winners went to Lucy Shea, (Heath Busch Trailers Players’ Player) for her relentless defence and attack the entire day, Hannah McGufficke (Riverina Hotel) for her work out in GA and accuracy to the post, and Indi Hicks (New Crown Hotel) for her ability to feed the ball to shooters effortlessly.

B Reserve Grade - by Leonnie Laracy.

Hay 57 defeated Moulamein 16.

B Reserve were on fire from the first whistle. Again, Hay’s strong full court combinations proved troublesome for their opponent.

The strength of Hay’s defence is to be admired, and kept Moulamein’s scoring opportunities low. combined with the accuracy of Hay’s shooters and strong mid courts, Hay B Res is looking forward to a great season. At first break it was Hay 19, Moulamein three.

B Res is enjoying the fresh legs in their rolling subs from some of Hays junior players, Emily Taylor, Emily Hill and Matilda Nisbet, who all showed great focus and had impact when they rolled on.

Additionally, welcome to all three as permanent members of B Res Team. Busch Family Players Player and Freight Masters Semi Trailers awards went to Jessica Weymouth and Kylie Brettschneider, whilst Tantrum Hair and Beauty award went to Emily Hill.

Hay took a convincing win 57 to 16.

Under 17s - by Jade Auldist.

Hay 62 defeated Moulamein nine.

Hay Lions Under 17 netball team had a dominant win against the Moulamein Swans on Saturday, defeating them by a convincing margin of 62 to nine.

Sienna Lund was a standout performer in Goal Attack, earning Murrumbidgee Real Estate Players Player award for her impressive shooting accuracy and teamwork.

Emily Hill's speed and agility in centre court were instrumental in the win, as she won the Active Farmers Coach Award for her defensive play and ability to create scoring opportunities.

Matilda Nisbet, playing her first full game in Goal Shooter, impressed with her positioning and shooting skills earning her the Peter Mullins Building Best on Court award.

The defensive line of Jade Doidge, Ella Harrison, Kodi Scott, and Emily Caughey was exceptional throughout the game. Emily Taylor's contribution as Wing Attack and Poppy Barnes' strong performance as a backup Centre were also crucial to the Lions' victory.

This win highlights the Hay Lions' strong team spirit and their promising future this season.

Under 14s - by Hannah Stewart.

Hay 44 defeated Moulamein 13.

The under 14s team had a stellar performance against Moulamein, bringing home their first win for the season, with the final score being 13 - 44.

The team all led strongly, passed extremely well, and encouraged and backed up their mates, showcasing an exceptional team game.

Some of our standouts were Maggie Shields and Evie Creighton in defence.

Their hunger and determination for the ball created a brick wall that the Moulamein attack could not break through.

Poppy Barnes brought stability and structure across the whole court as centre.

Her great vision and timing with her precision passing made it very hard for the Moulamein team to shut her down, and Rachel Taylor played an outstanding game in GA.

Rachel excelled on the centre pass and showed great strength, bringing the ball down from a defensive turnover while executing every goal.

This completely turned the game around in the second quarter. Overall, it was an excellent team performance, full of promising talent which is very exciting for the future of Hay netball.

Best on Court (Hay Calisthenics) went to Rachel Taylor, Players Player (Hay Newsagency) went to Poppy Barnes and Coaches Award (Lund Contracting) went to Alaina May.

Under 12s - By Emily Caughey. Hay 22 defeated Moulamein two. F-Troop came away with their first win on Saturday against Moulamein. Despite playing in positions they had never been in before, the team’s determined attitudes gained them a solid lead. They held this throughout the rest of the game.

Defence was strong and held off most of Moulamein’s attempts at goal, the end score being 22 to 2.

Well done to all the girls that played and gave their all. Awards went to Sophie Griffiths (M & S Bus Services Players’ Player), Charlie Clarke (Active Farmers), and Issy Pearson (Lions Canteen Award).

Every Lions netball team won their round, proving to be too much for their Moulamein counterparts, battling against them on Moulamein’s home turf.
