2023 Poker Run success

Poker Run Committee Members, Anthony and Tracy Ellis, and Poker Run Committee President Peter ‘Strop’ May.

Motorbikes roared into Hay from many directions for the 24th Annual Poker Run, the furthest away being from Kingaroy Queensland.

With over 184 hands being distributed, at least 200 participants left Hay at 9.30am from Tapper Agri Services.

Hay Scouts cooked bacon and egg rolls to fuel up the riders.

More than 450 kilometres were travelled on the day, with the first stop being Conargo, then Tocumwal, Blighty, Pretty Pine, and the final stop and a quick rest at Booroorban before motoring back into Hay.

Congregating at South Hay Hotel, they parked their bikes to enjoy a barbecue manned by Junior Magpies, and to partake in some well-deserved beverages while listening to the live musical entertainment.

Winning Poker Hand was Chris Hey, who will receive a Go Pro, donated by Nutrien Ag. Amber Tumolero was second, and she won a bag from Sarge and Daisy.

Justin Snaidero was third, and he won an esky and two stubby holders.

Worst hand was John Garner, who won some metal art from Purple Petals Florist.

Gethin Thomas, representative of the Motor Neurone Association, Wagga, was there to enjoy the night and to give a talk on how far research into Motor Neurone Disease has come, and the latest forays in investigation.

Mr Thomas said it was rare to see such a small town be so successful with fundraising and implementing events for Motor Neurone Disease, a delightful fact.

Tracy Ellis, committee member, and one of the founders of the Poker Run was delighted with another successful event.

“It was a great day and night, and a fantastic event,” she said.

“I would like to send out a massive, heartfelt thank-you to Tapper Ag, South Hay Hotel, Marlene Quinn, Sue and Lloyd Brettscneider, and every business house and person of Hay who continues to support this event and cause.”
