Icons of Hay recognised for their contributions

Three of Hay’s influential people were recognised by Member for Murray, Helen Dalton last week.

Libby Eason, Margaret Tighe and Mick Beckwith were presented with certificates to recognise their contributions to their community.

Margaret and Libby enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea with Mrs Dalton at Roberson’s Hot Bread Kitchen, where they discussed a variety of pertinent issues relevant to our district, including aged care, and other key issues.

Mick Beckwith was presented with his certificate at McFarland Wing.

Marg Tighe was congratulated on an amazing 50 years in service as Justice of the Peace, and for her commitment and dedication to the community.

Mick’s statement read, “Mick has proven his love for the town many times over, serving as councillor for over three decades, including a stint as mayor.

“A wonderful advocate for seniors, Mick has organised countless senior citizen celebrations and Sunday concerts.

“He was also pivotal in raising the issue of increased rent charges for council-run pensioner units. Mick also worked tirelessly on the Tidy Towns initiative.

“He believes there is no greater place to live than his beloved Hay and every week he writes a congratulatory note to the Star of the Week in the local paper- The Riverine Grazier.

“Mick was awarded Freedom of the Shire at the end of his decades of community service and remains a much loved and respected member of this great little country town.”

Libby too is dedication to her community.

“Born and raised in the Hay district, Mrs Eason has worked at many community businesses and as a Home and Community Care driver, making great friends with many elderly residents.

“Libby spent many years volunteering at the school reading with the children, facilitating speech programs, working the canteen and much more. Libby then commenced as an integration aide and worked in the Out of School Hours care.

“Libby then spent 19 years as a personal care assistant at Hay Retirement village, often going above and beyond for so many of the residents in her care.

“Libby has also volunteered at the darts club, Meals on Wheels, Poker Run for over 10 years and Can Assist for six years.
