Kismet Stud boasts high lambing percentages

By Krista Schade

The 41st Kismet Stud Annual Spring ram sale is on Wednesday October 2 at 1pm with inspection from 11am.

The sale will be on-property at Kismet, 5159 Riverina Highway, Howlong. This year 120 White Suffolks, 80 Southdown/ White Suffolk cross and 20 Poll Dorsets will be offered.

“We performance test through Stockscan and the figures will be available on the day or can be found on our website (www.kismetstud.com.au/ramsale),” Kismet’s Graham Wilson said.

“We are fully accredited for Brucellosis and are MN1V in the MAP program.

“We put a lot of emphasis on the shape of the ram to minimise management and maximise live lambing percentages.

“Having smooth shoulders with a reasonable neck extension and not too big a head more often produces a live lamb without a stressful birth, while still being a good size lamb.

“This in turn means less assisting ewes with lambing, and less stress on the ewes. Our lambing percentages back this up with lambing at around 170% with no artificial interference.

“The White Suffolks speak for themselves and are proving to be consistently popular year after year. They are breeding well with a good line-up of lambs on the ground.

“The Southdown/White Suffolk cross rams are producing lambs that are presenting well at the market as they have the SD trait of short dense wool and a very good carcass shape.

“All are welcome to our Ram Sale which includes a light lunch.”

For prior inspections or enquiries call Graham on 0428 265 215 or David Hill (Elders) on 0488 059 083 or email gwilson@kismetstud.com.au.

Once again the sale will be interfaced with AUCTIONS PLUS.
