Local breeders in the winners circle at 2024 Hay Merino Sheep Show

Local merino breeders were among the winners at the 2024 Hay Merino Sheep Show, held on Saturday.

Poll Boonoke took out the champion medium wool March shorn ram, champion strong wool March shorn ram and the prestigious Elders champion March Shorn ram. The stud also received the reserve champion (second-placed) honour in the same class.

Carol and Stephen Huggins’ Woodpark Poll was named most successful exhibitor in the unhoused section after taking the blue ribbon for champion unhoused ewe as well as the reserve champion ewe. Stephen is pictured below left with daughter Lily.

Woodpark Poll claimed champion and reserve champion in three of the four unhoused classes, with David and Val Davies of Walgrove claiming first and second place in the fourth class. David Davies is pictured above with grand daughter Abbie.

Burrabogie Stud also did well on the day, taking home the award for most successful Hay district flock exhibitor.

South Australian Stud Mulloorie took home the supreme champion prize, with their magnificent Merino ewe, ahead of Alfoxton’s champion ram. Mulloorie was also crowned the winner of the Andrew Lockhart memorial award for most successful exhibitor.

Justin named 18th Ambassador

Australian Food & Agriculture Stud Manager Justin Campbell (right) was named the eighteenth Ambassador of the Hay Merino Sheep Show.

He is pictured with President and fellow Ambassador Ian Lugsdin.
