NEW COUNCIL TOLD TO LOOK FORWARD AND NOT IN THE REAR VISION MIRROR

The new Hay Shire Council received some advice from the top at its first meeting last week, with General Manager David Webb cautioning councillors they need to look out the front on the road, and not in the rear vision mirror.

In an unexpected twist, popular mayor for the past 15 months, Cr Jenny Dwyer (nominated by Cr Martyn Quinn) was ousted when she lost 3-5 to newly elected councillor, Carol Oataway for the mayoral position.

The position of deputy mayor was contested by Crs Geoff Chapman (three votes) and Lionel Garner (five votes).

The Riverine Grazier takes this opportunity to wish upon our new Council the four main ingredients of a successful team – honesty, unity, wisdom and vision.

We also thank Cr Jenny Dwyer for giving it her all whilst serving as mayor as a hundred per cent hands-on leader.

This was echoed at Council’s meeting last week when Cr Geoff Chapman moved a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the former mayor’s hard work and dedication.
