Boots out for Dallas

Under 14.5 Lions joined football clubs from around the country in remembering and honouring fellow footballer, and putting their boots out for Dallas. Castlemaine Football Netball Club footballer Dallas Keogh- Frankling from the Bendigo Football league landed awkwardly in a tackle against Kyneton but played out the game and even ran off the field after the final siren.

It was later confirmed that the 17-year-old suffered a ruptured spleen before he collapsed and died after an under-18s game last Saturday. Photo: Supplied.

In a wonderful display of sportsmanship, Hay Lions 14.5 football team secured a 62-1 win while playing a fair and competitive match against the young Moulamein side.

Coach Ben Gardiner made a strategic decision in the first quarter and opted to have older, more skilled players sit on the bench.

This allowed younger, up-and-coming players a valuable opportunity to showcase their talents.

As a result, the quarter concluded with Moulamein managing to score just a single point to Hay zero.

Heading into the second quarter, the older players stepped onto the field, not only representing Hay Lions but also volunteering to play for the opposing team.

This further balanced the talent and made the game more competitive, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all participants. As the match progressed into the third quarter, Hay Lions began to assert their dominance, with well-executed goals.

Their strong performance established a substantial lead, which carried over into the fourth quarter.

Recognising the large score of 62-1, both teams mutually agreed to invoke the Mercy rule, effectively freezing the score. Players from both sides continued to exhibit great sportsmanship and enthusiasm, keeping the intensity of the game alive until the final whistle.

Throughout the game, Archie Auldist (Hay Newsagents award) demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork.

His selfless play and willingness to share the ball contributed significantly to the Lions' offensive success. Ned Williamson (Auldist Family award) impressively kicked four goals. Euen Kerr (Christos Steel structures award) demonstrated resilience, giving his all and delivering a great performance for both teams. Max Hutchings (Sprout Ag award), skilfully manoeuvred the ball and provided stability and control for the Lions. In ruck position, Kobe Payne (Foodworks Hay award) played an instrumental role in the Lions' victory.

His contributions were pivotal in securing possession and providing his team with the opportunities to dominate the match.

14s demonstrated exceptional teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill throughout the game.

Their willingness to share players with the opposition and adhere to the Mercy rule, showcased their commitment to fairness and respect for their opponents.

Final score: Hay 10.2 -62 Moulamein 0.1-1.
