Devlin and team represent Riverina in squash

Devlin Clarke was awarded the Riverina Medal in an outstanding performance at the NSWCHS Squash Championships in Thornleigh, Sydney.

His coach said Devlin played in the true spirit of the competition, even stopping and helping a younger, less experienced opponent to give him a few pointers mid-game. He exhibited all the traits of a real champion and a deserved winner of the Riverina Medal.

This amazing win by Devlin was the icing on the cake of an outstanding week of squash success had by Bailey Caughey, Devlin Clarke and Kirby Pingiaro at the NSWCHS Squash Championships.

Not only was this an incredible achievement for the boys, but it was a fantastic feat for Hay to have three boys in the team of five players representing Riverina.

Our boys played competitive squash against older and more experienced players, with Kirby progressing the furthest in the U15 individual event.

Overall, the Riverina team came away with great success; in the girl’s team event, Riverina won Silver.

Three Riverina players, Sienna and Jasmine from Finley, and Justin from Albury made it on to the NSW team to play Qld and NZ in August.

The Riverina Boys Team finished seventh in the state.

This was the second time the Riverina Medal was awarded to a Hay player, with Ben Caughey receiving the medal the previous year.

The boys would like to thank their Coach Lisa, Hay Squash Club and Cathy Millyard for all of their help and assistance.

All of our boys should be proud of their efforts. Devlin, you are a true champion, to be a winner, gracious and humble to opponents, you cannot ask for much more than that in a player. We are sure you will be one to watch!
