Easter shoot hotly contested

High winds and an overcast day added an extra element of difficulty to Hay Gun Club Easter Shoot.

Nevertheless, 40 competitors poured in from all corners to vie for the $6000 of cash and prizes on offer.

Phil Grainger from Noorat Gun Club in Victoria made things look easy by winning three of the five events on offer and taking out the prestigious High Gun which was very kindly donated by D.G Harrison sand Sons with an excellent final score of 253/265.

First event of the day was a 25 target pointscore. Overall winner was Phil Grainger with a score of 81/81. First in AA was Brett McAllister from Griffith on 78/81. Second AA was Matthew Appleby from Loddon District on 92/93. First in A grade was Chloe Evans from Coly on 72/75. Second in A grade was Sally Evans from Coly on 94/99. First in B grade was Jason Wall on 83/90. Second in B grade was Eric McCullough on 80/90. First in C grade was Bailey Henderson from Border CTC on 61/75. Second in C grade was Clint Henderson on 57/75.

Second event was a 30-target single barrel. Overall winner was Phil Grainger with a score of 35/35. First in AA grade was Robert Nelson from Mathoura on 34/35. Second in AA grade was Brett Ford from Corowa on 29/30. First in A grade was Bill Harris from Patchewollock on 29/30. Second in A grade was Cameron Ford from Corowa on 32/34. First in B grade was Angus McAllister from Griffith on 31/34. Second in B grade was Neil Bakker from Mornington on 30/34. First in C grade was Bailey Henderson on 31/32. Second in C grade was John Headon on 24/30.

Third event of the day was a 60 target medley. Overall winner was Brian Doyle with a score of 97/100. First in AA was Daryl Hunt from Wangaratta on 120/125. Second in AA grade was Robbie Fitzgerald from Colbo on 117/125. First in A grade was Cameron Ford on 91/100. Second in A grade was Bill Harris on 90/100. First in B grade was Rachael Wiggins from Mornington on 94/100. Second was Jo-Anne Ford from Corowa on 89/100. First in C grade was Clint Henderson on 94/125. Second in C grade was John Headon on 89/125.

Forth event of the day was the NSW Riverina Zone 15 pair double rise, O/A winner was Ben Griffiths from Wagga with a score of 44/50.

First in AA grade was Brian Doyle on 43/50. Second in AA grade was Phil Headon on 27/30. First in A grade was Simon Gee on 36/40. Second in A grade was George DePaoli from Leeton on 43/50. First in B grade was Angus McAllister on 32/40. Second in B grade was Chloe Evans on 31/40. First in C grade was Van Haidy on 26/30. Second in C grade was Clint Henderson on 24/30.

Fifth and final event of the day was the NSW Riverina Zone 15 pair night double rise shot under lights. When the sun went down, overall winner was Phil Grainger with a score of 28/30. First in AA grade was Brian Doyle on 25/30. Second in AA grade was Phil Headon on 20/30. First in A grade was Lee Fitzgerald from Colbo on 24/30. Second in A grade was Daryl Hunt on 36/46. First in B grade was Chloe Evans on 25/30. Second in B grade was John Maxwell from Deni on 22/30. First in C grade was Robbie Fitzgerald on 27/40. Second in C grade was Sally Evans on 25/30.
