Hay Cutters impress the ladies

The Cutters were keen to impress the large crowd that attend the annual Ladies Day on Saturday and didn’t disappoint with a 14 – 7 win over the Tumut Bulls.

The Cutters had a full squad of 22 players with some new players keen for a run. With Tumut only able to field 14 players and requesting non contested scrums, Will Booth offered to play for Tumut which made it an even contest. Cutters started well defending like usual and managing to get deep into Tumut’s territory. But not staying on their feet at the breakdown caused unnecessary penalties against the Cutters. While Tumut managed to attack deep into the Cutters half, they still managed to hold their line from being crossed, with some great tackling by Jack Lawrence, Will Marshall, Tom Lilburne and Paddy Grant. T

umut showed they had some very talented players and the game opened up for a good contest. Will Nadin as captain lead from the font with some good strong runs and tackles. Hay made their way back down the field with some good phases, and got the ball out wide for Harry Agar to cross over and convert to lead 7 nil. Tumut compressed their defence which upset the Cutters structure, but the Cutters kept running the ball at them. The second half continued in much the same way with some fresh reserves injected into the game. Rory Walsh and Hamish Dye were playing well until injuries forced them from the field.

The second try for Hay was with some strong runs by the forwards close to the goal posts. This gave the backs the opportunity to swing the ball out wide to Peter Nadin who switched at half time to the wing position. He showed some good pace to get to the try line. Another difficult goal attempt was converted by Agar. Hay led 14-0.

Tumut hit back with a try out wide and conversion and were starting to realize they were right in this game and were trying hard for the upset. Nick Makeham was having a great game at fullback until unfortunately sustaining a shoulder injury. Later in the game Tumut’s winger got in the clear, he was stopped by replacement Alex Ritalau, but supporting for Tumut on the inside was Will Booth who put the pass down with no one in front. It was a good win in the end for the Cutters.

Points were awarded to - 3 Harry Agar, 2 James Graham, 1 Peter Nadin. Players Player James Lott.

Will Nadin, Hay Cutters Club President said “As a Club it has been great to support some charities and this Ladies Day, we supported the McGrath Foundation with a Pull on Your Pink Socks day. All the players wore the McGrath Foundation Pink Socks and wonderful local businesses supplied fantastic prizes for a great raffle, raising just over $1000 for the Foundation. Thank all those who donated prizes and purchased tickets.”
