Hay Amateur Swimming Club held its annual swimming carnival on Saturday, providing a wonderful opportunity for many of the swimmers to compete in what was their first carnival outside school.

Competitors also travelled from Griffith, Coleambally, Deniliquin, Finley and Leeton/Yanco swimming clubs.

With promising entries from local younger swimmers, Hay should be excited for the talent coming through. Sione Polhill, Riley Pearson and Norah Green placed in all their 25m events. Bella Garner had a stellar performance in the pool dropping seconds in both her 100m backstroke and breastroke and placing in all her 10 events.

Hardworking volunteers Lisa Bowen, Leanne Congdon and Carol Oataway.

Dusty Plum placed first in his 100m backstroke and second in his other 5 events. Mela Polhill dropped 5.47 seconds off her 200m Individual Medley placing second in the 10 and under event and Charlotte Clarke broke the minute for her 50m freestyle by dropping 8.68 seconds. George Schiller, Tom Cannon and Bobby Auldist were battling against each other for placings all day, they showed wonderful sportsmanship whilst still being competitive.

Senior swimmers, Devlin-James Clarke, Nathanial Clarke, Poppy Barnes, Dillon Green, Daniel Green, Euen Kerr and Marley Sorensen all put in amazing performances throughout the day whilst leading the way for the younger swimmers coming through and giving them someone to look up to.

Putting together a carnival takes great effort and the club could not have done it without the assistance of generous people and families. Special thanks to Carol Oataway, Lisa Bowen, Lily Weymouth, Hay Youth Taskforce, LSA and the Club families who all contributed to make the day a success as well to the sponsors for their generosity, Hay Betta Electrical, WillShear, Rick’s Parks & Garden maintenance and Harrison’s IGA.
