Jack and Corben clean up for DPC

Jack Tapper and Corben Headon have given it all in the 2022 football season. The pair have represented Hay well, with Corben receiving Best and Fairest and Jack the Coach’s Award.

Jack has played both Rugby League for Darlington Point Coleambally 16s on Sundays, as well as Aussie Rules for the Hay Lions in the Under 17s on Saturdays. This has been no easy feat, playing both Saturday and Sunday most weekends.

DPC would not have had a team if it weren't for Jack and Corben Headon joining in - to make up numbers, to help their mates out.

“We haven't dared add up the kilometres travelled for Jack to participate,” his mother, Catherine said.

“Jack was encouraged to play Rugby League from his mates at St Francis De Sales Regional College, where he attends weekly, returning home, or to football rather, on the weekends!

“If I may say a huge thank you to all those involved in allowing this to happen.

“Many hands have helped out, with shared travel, picking up boys from the bus at Waddi and getting them to training, and mid-week trips to and from training.

“Heartfelt thank you to coach Jason Fuller, coach’s assistant, and boys’ taxi, Thomas Fattore, Jack’s second mum away from home, Kendra Fattore and to all the parents who travelled and helped out.

“It has been wonderful seeing these boys grow and compete as a team.”

There have been some very hard games. The boys never gave up, just kept turning up and giving it a go and the scoreboard, although not tipped in DPC's way in finals, showed immense improvement.

“Corben has only ever really played a bit of sport through school and this was his first year playing for DPC or any club, or code for that matter,” Corben’s mother Sharyn said.

“He really enjoyed it and played his best every week. He was listed in the Group 20 U16s team to play against Group 9; however, he didn’t end up playing as he lacked the confidence in himself.

“He was later told by his coach that he was good enough to play a couple of games in first grade.

“He played hard and loves his footy and came home with Best and Fairest this year.

“We are very proud of him and his achievements and we are all looking forward to cheering him on again next season.”

Well done DPC 16s! Congratulations to our two young footy champions!
