Corinne captains QLD team to victory

Corinne Stallan, (above) daughter of former Hayite Katerina Lewis, has been named player of the series, in the recent women’s under-25 lawn bowls contest against New South Wales.

18-year-old Stallan – who has quickly risen in the sport – captained the Queensland team, who posted a 2 to 1 test series win, at the championships played in Sydney.

The Queensland team won the first two games 45-42 and 41-27 to clinch the series. New South Wales claimed the final game 50-38.

Stallan has played the sport for five or six years and has travelled extensively to vye for selections, which certainly paid off for her. She lives in Cooktown, but self-funded the trip to the Gold Coast, where she was selected for the Queensland team.

“I just went along one day playing social bowls and decided I liked it, and a coach took me under his wing and it went from there,” she told her local newspaper.

“I like the teamwork and playing in a team with my mates.”
