Not happy with mayoral election

Madam

Please let me congratulate our new Hay Shire Council for (maybe) the next two years.

As president of RSL sub-branch, I issue an open invitation to all ceremonies and functions to our mayor; like all past mayors had.

There are stories going about how the new mayor was elected by other councillors. We, the town of Hay would like the truth.

Did some councillors have a meeting before the official meeting last Tuesday, or not? Will we receive that answer truthfully?

The new mayor has big shoes to fill from past mayors. I have been on many committees over the years, and never has a president stepped up ‘green’ to take on the top job first-up. Perhaps the new mayor could have, or should have, declined the first term to learn the ropes on how Local Government works.

But all the best to you. I have always said, the wheel is round and if you buy a ticket in a chook raffle, one day that wheel will stop on your number.

So, we hope that some councillors have not started a small gang to cause trouble, as we fear that is what is going to happen.

We have a good General Manager who will need to keep you in line, with most of our town’s backing.

If you respond to this letter, tell the truth – no short cuts. Most of the town are watching and listening.
