Hay Lions 2025 signing spree
By Krista Schade
Hay Lions continue to pave the way towards another solid AFL season, announcing several player signings to round out 2024. The club has also unveiled a skilled and experienced coaching team.
Locals Brad Pocock and Tom McGufficke will play lead roles in the senior squad.
McGufficke has been named as assistant coach, supporting co-coaches Jason Aylett and James Moran.
“A dedicated and fearless player who can play almost any position on the field,” Hay Lions said.
Pocock will co-captain the senior Lions side, and is the on-field assistant coach.
“Poey is a natural leader whose passion for the Lions is clear both on and off the field.
“On the field, he’s a fearless defender who can lock down dangerous forwards and then also create attacking play.
“His vocal leadership and strategic mindset make him a player you don’t want to face.”
Jack Headon will join the Lions for season 2025. Headon took out the 2024 Golden Rivers Mark of the Year trophy.
“Jack has already played plenty of senior footy between GWS Academy, Geelong Falcons and school commitments, but we are excited to have him in the Lion’s Den for all of season 2025.
“A young cub but one with plenty of experience, Jack will also be assisting Jase and Jimmy in the coaching ranks.”
In an exciting development Dylan Collis will join brother Will at the Hay club.
“Dyl is fresh off playing his 100th game for Waratah in the Northern Territory and his footy resume is something to get very excited about. We cannot wait to see him run around in Lions colours next season.
“We saw what Will could do last season, a dynamic midfielder who can sneak forward and kick bags of goals. The former Sydney Swans skipper is a true leader on the field.”
Further player announcements are expected soon.
