Hay swimmers shine at Griffith carnival

Seven of Hay’s little superfish competed in Southern Inland Swimming Association (SISA) Championships and Speedo Sprint heats at the Griffith Aquatic Centre.

Over the course of the two-day carnival, Hay team competed and placed in numerous events and achieved significant personal best times.

Day one was a day for the longer distance swimmers who competed in 100 and 200 metre events. Larissa Sorensen placed third in 100 metre backstroke and breaststroke with Isabel Pearson, Bella Garner and Marley Sorensen taking substantial time off their personal best times.

Day two was the Speedo Sprint heats where swimmers placing in the top four of their 50 metre event gained a spot on the SISA team to compete in Sydney. Ariana Meads competed in the 25 metre events, placing second in backstroke and third in freestyle and butterfly. Oliver Meads, Isabel Pearson, Marley, Larissa and Harper Sorensen competed in numerous events and continued to set amazing new personal bests, showing that their summer training is paying off.

Special congratulations to Bella Garner who placed third in 8-year-old girls 50 metre breaststroke and butterfly, awarding her a spot on the SISA team to compete at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on March 4.
