Member for Farrer Sussan Ley calls for nuclear power stations
Member for Farrer Sussan Ley has backed the call for nuclear power in Australia.
On a recent visit to Hay the federal member and deputy leader of the opposition said there needs to be an important discussion about nuclear energy production.
“I'm pro renewables because we all need to make the renewable energy transition,” Ms Ley told The Riverine Grazier.
“We need a genuine discussion about whether we should have a nuclear option, which I think is a really important discussion.”
Farrer MP predicts December election
Member for Farrer Sussan Ley was in Hay last week, meeting members of the community, as part of her ‘Pollies in the Pub’ campaign.
Ms Ley’s first round of meetings took place at Kinfolk Coffee Shop, which is where The Riverine Grazier met up with the local member, who said there’s a “50/50 chance” of a federal election this year.
“I'm not the only person who thinks that, so it could well be there's an election on December 7,” Ms Ley said.
Crowds gather in Deniliquin, Griffith and Leeton to protest Murray Darling Basin Plan water buybacks
Massive crowds gathered at three simultaneous rallies in Deniliquin, Griffith and Leeton last week.
The protests against water buybacks to reach Murray Darling Basin Plan targets was a National Farmers’ Federation initiative, supported by the Speak Up Campaign.
The rally included trucks, tractors and farm equipment, driven to each gathering by angry farmers and irrigators.

An injunction is to be lodged against a decision by Minister for the Environment, Sussan Ley to rebury ancestral remains, including Mungo Man and Mungo Lady, in 26 secret unmarked graves within the Willandra Heritage Area.
$909K to kick off recycling project
A total of $909,800 has been allocated to Hay Shire Council to construct a material recovery facility at the Waste Transfer Station.
The announcement was made on Monday afternoon by Minister for the Environment, Sussan Ley who said Hay was leading the way in recycling.
